Requirements for PMA / Mobility Aid
What is a PMA?
- 🦽 It is a Personal Mobility Aid designed to carry individuals with walking difficulties
MOBOT specialises in motorised and foldable electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters with a wide variety of features.
Who can ride a PMA?
- ✅ No age limit
- 🔒 Assessment of Mobility Scooter (AMS) medical certification required from Q1 2026
- 👩🦼 AMS is not required for electric wheelchair users
Can I carry a passenger on a PMA?
- ❌ No, not allowed (single-user only)
What is the max speed of a PMA?
- ⏱️ Max 6 km/h on public paths
- 🦽 Applies to both mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs
- 📅 Existing PMAs ≤10 km/h allowed until end‑2028, but must be capped to 6 km/h by 2029
What are the size and design requirement of a PMA?
- ✔️ Must have ≥3 wheels, 1 footboard, handlebars, and only 1 seat
- 🪑 Devices with multiple seats are not considered mobility scooters
- 📏 Max dimensions: 70 cm (W) × 120 cm (L) × 150 cm (H)
- ⚖️ Max laden weight: 300 kg
- 📝 Exemptions may be granted for medically necessary oversize PMAs

- ✔️ Yes, but both pillion and rider must be 16 years or above
What is the max speed of an e-bike
- ⏱️ Max 25km/h
What are the size, design and certification requirement of an e-bike?
- 📏 Width ≤ 70 cm
- ⚖️ ≤ 20 kg (total incl. battery & accessories)
- ✅ Must comply with EN15194 and LTA specs
- 🚫 Modifications prohibited
- 🚫 No throttle/start-up assist

What is a PMD?
- 🏍 It is a Personal Mobility Device, a wheeled device for personal transport or recreation, typically propelled by an electric motor or human power
Who can ride a PMD?
- 🚴♀️ Rider must be ≥16 and pass the PMD theory test
- ✔️ Under 16 allowed only with adult ≥21 supervision (adult must be certified)
Can I carry a passenger on an e-scooter?
- ✔️ Yes, any age
What is the max speed of an e-scooter?
- ⏱️ Max 25km/h
What are the size, design and certification requirement of an e-scooter?
- 📏 Width ≤ 70 cm
- ⚖️ ≤ 20 kg
- ✅ Certified with UL2272
Do I need a license or take a test to ride an e-scooter?
- ✅ Yes, you will need to pass the PMD theory test to ride an e-scooter
- ✅ Required for supervising adult (if rider is <16)
