Mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs, also known as personal mobility aids (PMAs), are designed to support the elderly and those who face challenges with walking or standing for extended periods.
In recent years, the popularity of mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs has surged, making them common sights on pedestrian pathways, public transport, and at various public places. This increase in visibility is likely due to advancements in design, improved affordability, and reduced social stigma associated with their use.
In Singapore, the use of mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs on public paths is regulated by the Active Mobility Act. They are permitted on pedestrian, cycling, and shared paths, as well as park connector networks, but are prohibited from being used on roads.
Unlike electric scooters, mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs are not required to meet the physical criteria for weight (max 20kg) and width (max 70cm) and do not need to be registered or comply with the UL2272 safety standard.
While many mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs on the market can be bulky and difficult to transport, MOBOT offers foldable options that can easily fit into a car boot, making them ideal for daily commutes on public buses and MRT. MOBOT mobility scooters come in 3- and 4-wheel models, offering increased speed and range compared to traditional electric wheelchairs, while still remaining compact and easily portable.
