22 August 2024 – In an exciting partnership, MOBOT has partnered with the Singapore National Paralympics Council (SNPC) to provide Singapore’s Paris 2024 Paralympic Team with mobility devices. As a leading brand in mobility solutions, MOBOT is equipping our Paralympians with the cutting-edge Opula Lite 4-wheel mobility scooters (mobility aid), the MWheel RS electric wheelchair, and Royale GT M9 tri-fold foldable bicycles to ensure they have the best support as they compete on the world stage. This partnership underscores MOBOT’s commitment to empowering athletes and promoting inclusivity in sports.
Working with the Singapore National Paralympic Council
Previously, MOBOT had partnered with the SNPC to sponsor Para-Equestrian Gemma Rose Foo and Para-Archer Nur Syahidah Alim in 2021, after the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. 3 years on, through MOBOT’s second collaboration with the SNPC, it is time for our para-athletes to renew their devices while also supporting more para-athletes on their paralympic journey.
MOBOT has also sponsored Team Singapore athletes such as Badminton player Loh Kean Yew, the 2021 BWF World Championships men’s singles world champion and Table Tennis player Clarence Chew.
Through this partnership with the SNPC, MOBOT is providing mobility solutions to ensure that Singapore’s Paralympians are equipped with the best possible tools to excel at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The Opula Lite 4-wheel mobility scooters (mobility aid), MWheel RS electric wheelchair, and Royale GT M9 tri-fold foldable bicycles are specifically chosen to meet the unique needs of each athlete, offering them greater independence, comfort, and portability as they navigate both competition venues and daily life in Paris, ensuring that every athlete has the opportunity to perform at their peak.
As we look forward to their performances in Paris, it’s important to recognise the inspiring stories behind each of these athletes and the incredible journeys they’ve undertaken to reach this stage.
Athletes and Their Stories
Gemma Rose Foo - Para-Equestrian
Gemma is an inspiring figure in the world of Para-Equestrian, a sport where athletes ride and guide horses in dressage competitions, demonstrating their control and teamwork with the horse. Diagnosed with spastic quadriplegia, a severe form of cerebral palsy where muscle stiffness and weakness affect all four limbs resulting in difficulty with movement, her journey began at the age of 8 with Hippotherapy at the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Singapore. Her talent and determination quickly saw her progress to Para-Dressage, and she competed in her first competition in 2008. Gemma’s career took off when she represented Singapore at the Hope Cup in Taiwan in 2010. At just 16, she made history as part of the first Asian Para-Equestrian team to compete in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Paris 2024 will mark her fourth Paralympic appearance, and she continues to be a beacon of excellence in her sport.
In addition to her equestrian achievements, Gemma also runs a book review page and blog, The Fiction Magnet, where she shares her love for literature with thoughtful insights and recommendations.
Gemma has consistently delivered impressive performances, securing top positions in international competitions leading up to Paris 2024. Her games will begin on 3 September, 3PM (SGT) and she has chosen the Opula Lite 4-wheel mobility scooter as her mobility aid. Singaporeans will be cheering her on as she aims for the podium.
Nur Syahidah Binte Alim - Para-Archery
Syahidah is Singapore’s trailblazing para-archer, having made history as the first female archer to represent the nation at the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016, where she reached the quarter-finals. She is diagnosed with Diplegia, a condition where muscle stiffness and weakness primarily affect both legs, often resulting in difficulty with movement and coordination. Syahidah’s journey in archery began at the 2015 ASEAN Para Games, where she won two gold medals. She went on to become Singapore’s first-ever world champion at the World Archery Para Championships in 2019.
Her list of achievements is long and distinguished, including a silver medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games and multiple golds at the ASEAN Para Games. Her event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is highly anticipated, starting on 29 August, 7PM (SGT), and she has chosen the Opula Lite 4-wheel mobility scooter as her mobility aid. Syahidah’s relentless pursuit of excellence and her remarkable track record make her a formidable competitor on the global stage.
Toh Wei Soong - Para-Swimming
Wei Soong’s journey in swimming began as a therapeutic activity at the age of six, following his diagnosis of Transverse Myelitis at two years old, a condition where inflammation in the spinal cord disrupts nerve signals and causes paralysis and pain. What started as therapy quickly became a passion, leading him to competitive swimming by 2013. Wei Soong’s dedication and talent have made him a standout athlete, with achievements including a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and a gold in the Men’s 50m Butterfly at the 2024 Citi Para Swimming World Series.
Beyond his athletic pursuits, Wei Soong is a multi-talented individual. He is the Editor of ONZ Magazine, a local street fashion publication. His event in Paris 2024 is scheduled to begin on 3 September, 3:30PM (SGT) and he has chosen the Opula Lite 4-wheel mobility scooter as his mobility aid. He is poised to make waves once again.
Jeralyn Tan Yee Ting - Boccia
Jeralyn’s love for Boccia began in 2008, a precision ball sport, similar to bowling, where athletes with physical disabilities aim to throw or roll balls as close as possible to a target ball, called the jack. She quickly found success, representing Singapore at the 2015 and 2017 ASEAN Para Games, where she won bronze. Despite her Cerebral Palsy diagnosis, a neurological disorder leading to impaired muscle coordination, movement and posture, her determination saw her through a breakthrough year in 2021, securing a gold medal at the Asian-Oceania Regionals Championships in Dubai. Jeralyn is currently the top-ranked female Boccia player in Asia and ranked 2nd globally.
Jeralyn’s journey to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is a testament to her dedication and resilience. Her competition begins on 29 August, 11PM (SGT), and she has chosen the MWheel RS electric wheelchair as her mobility aid. She remains the only BC1 female player representing Singapore, bringing pride to the nation.
Daniel Chan Han Siong - Shooting Para Sport
Daniel’s journey in shooting is as unique as it is inspiring. Born with obstetrical brachial plexus palsy, a birth injury where the nerves controlling the arm and hand are damaged during delivery, leading to weakness or paralysis in the affected limb. Daniel was introduced to shooting during National Service but took a hiatus to pursue a bachelor’s degree. He was inspired to return to the sport after watching the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. With a personal best of 570 in the 2024 Singapore Cup, Daniel has secured his place at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
In addition to his athletic pursuits, Daniel is a co-founder and coach at The Go Academy, a school that conducts lessons on Go. His events will commence on 30 August, 5:15PM (SGT), and he has chosen the Royale GT M9 tri-fold foldable bicycle as his mobility device. He is determined to achieve his dream of representing Singapore at both the Paralympic and Olympic Games.
MOBOT’s sponsorship of Singapore’s Paralympians at the Paris 2024 Games is more than just providing mobility assistance; it’s about supporting dreams, resilience, and excellence. As our athletes prepare to compete on the world stage, MOBOT stands with them, proud to be part of their journey to greatness. Let’s rally behind our Paralympians as they go for gold in Paris!
