Singapore's First Gold Medal at the Paris 2024 Games
Singapore’s swimming sensation, Yip Pin Xiu, made history once again by clinching Singapore’s first medal at the Paris 2024 Games. On 30 August, the 32-year-old swimmer delivered a stunning performance in the women’s 100m backstroke S2, winning the gold medal.
Just two days later, on 1 September, she secured her second gold medal in the women’s 50m backstroke S2 event, bringing her total Paralympic gold count to an astonishing seven. This achievement solidifies her legacy as one of the world’s greatest para-swimmers. Yip’s unstoppable drive and humility have made her a national treasure.
A Historic Silver in Boccia
Making her Paralympic debut, Jeralyn Tan showcased her incredible talent in the sport of Boccia. She narrowly missed out on the gold in her finals match on 2 September, but her silver medal win is nothing short of historic. Tan’s accomplishment marks Singapore’s first-ever Paralympic medal in Boccia.
Closing Ceremony
As the Games drew to a close, Team Singapore gathered for one last celebration. The Closing Ceremony was a moment of pride and reflection as our athletes waved the Singapore flag, marking the end of a successful campaign in Paris.
Return to Singapore
Upon their return to Singapore, the team was greeted with cheers and admiration. The para-athletes met with Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Mr. Edwin Tong, who took the time to personally congratulate them on their achievements. It was a heartwarming scene that underscored the support and recognition these athletes have earned from the nation.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire Team Singapore Paralympics squad. Each athlete gave their all, showcasing the true meaning of perseverance and resilience. You’ve made us all incredibly proud, and we look forward to supporting your journeys in the future. Well done, Team Singapore!
