Looking for a UL2272 certified electric scooter (e-scooter) but could not find a suitable one?
Indeed, we need time to send our different models of e-scooters for UL2272 certification. We launched the MOBOT L1-1, a mid range e-scooter on 25 Dec 2018 and more models are in the pipeline. But it may take many months to see a comprehensive range of UL2272 certified e-scooters.
Do not worry. You can still buy LTA-compliant non UL2272 certified e-scooters from MOBOT in confidence. Here are the 4 reasons:
1. If you purchase a non UL2272 certified e-scooter before 1 July 2019, you can register with LTA and use it until the end of 2020. For online registration, just remember, do NOT tick the fourth box: Certified to Safety Standard. Tick “No” for “Certified to comply with UL2272 Safety Standard” for paper-based registration at SingPost office.
2. UL2272 certification process takes around 8 to 12 weeks. The process may take longer if additional testing is required or the lab has a tight schedule. Hence you can only expect UL2272 certified e-scooters to be introduced to the market progressively from March 2019. But bear in mind that the models and battery variations may not be comprehensive.
3. Every single model of e-scooter requires for a separate and different testing and certification. UL2272 testing fee at UL Labs or its accredited labs could be as high as SGD65,000 per model. MOBOT guarantees for more UL2272 certified new models coming in due time.
Even though MOBOT is committed to providing our customers with more choices as possible, we still need to prepare for the UL2272 tests one model at a time. Starting from lightweight e-scooter without seat, to family e-scooters with two child seats in front and the rear. As a result, you most likely need to wait for a few more months’ time to see full range of UL2272 new models in the market.
4. MOBOT provides Guaranteed Trade-in Program for e-scooters purchased in 2019. The trade-in value is guaranteed at 15% of your current purchase when you buy MOBOT UL2272-certified new model next time, regardless of your old e-scooter conditions. Trade-in value can be as high as 20% if your e-scooter is still in good usable condition.
